Well, it has been a quiet month for us at the woodlands as Vespa, our lovely border collie, has had an operation to remove a cancerous growth. Being an energetic dog, she has not adhered to the enforced idleness, which means her stitches have had to be redone. Now the enforced idleness continues for even longer!
Luckily, Lauren, our daughter and her friends were able to step in and go up to the woodlands. They fed the birds, did patrols and ensured everything was as it should be. They saw deer and many hibernating ladybirds. The ladybirds particularly like the workstation and under the toilet seat as their hibernation spots of choice.
When we next visit the woodlands, we will download the wildlife cameras and let Lauren and her friends know what was around at the time.
Michael, our local Biology graduate will continue to feed the birds for us and pick up after the squirrels. The squirrels are busy knocking down the bird feeds so they can have a feast. Apparently, mothballs are the answer as squirrels hate the smell, but we will check what chemicals are in them before deciding whether to use them. We will let you know how that works out.
Dr. Brian Cooper, our friend and Environmentalist consultant, who visited earlier this year, has been taking our Excel spreadsheet to a new level which Mary is working on getting her head around. Our latest count is now 859!
We'd like to take the chance now to wish you all a lovely Christmas break. Thank you for all of your lovely messages of support and interest! We will be back in the New Year!
