March blog- a time to assess, review and repair

This weekend was very busy sorting the damage from the tough winter of storms and floods. The drive down to the gate had been washed away, so we hired an excavator. Steve and Michael did sterling work getting it back into a safe and usable condition.

Last time we noticed the lack of molehills, so will keep a lookout to see what happens. Also the earthworms were badly hit by all the water. We will contact the Brundall Biodiversity group to discuss these issues.

We were pleased to find some positive signs of growth. Both the daffodils and the bluebells, which were under water for weeks, have emerged reasonably unscathed.

The stakes we used to create the willow bird hide are all showing signs of life.

The blackthorn, which would normally begin flowering at the end of March, is already burgeoning.

The stinging nettles have not been fazed at all by the weather!

We plan to have another open day in April, so you can see just how Blackwater Carr has weathered the tough times. Watch this space for more details.
